this is my blackberry digital image capture portrayal of my summer thus far. it’s the liz show. how obnoxious that entire segment was. maybe one picture without me in it.
neil arrives at oakland airport at 7:50pm PST tomorrow. i’m kicking under the covers with excitement.
interning at fecalface has been wonderful. everything i could have asked for. though, it would be nice to work more often. i photographed at a bunch of different galleries this past week. i won’t post them, because they’re just snapshots of other people’s art. you can see some of them on the site. i’m also reviewing artist books and zines mailed to John Trippe from all over the world. they should also be up on the site eventually. i’m shown above (looking like an idiot) with artist, Brett Amory, at his opening of the In ‘N Out series at the gallery. Nice guy. everyone I’ve met has been really nice, actually. and some of them seem to know me before I know them, which is weird. i’m beginning to finally get weirded out by the internet. more people have seen my website now than ever before because of a silly link on fecalface. it’s exciting. and frightening.
i keep spending money and yet, the numbers remain the same on my monthly statement.
i’ve been house sitting, dog sitting, holding open houses for my parents, reading like crazy, basking in the sun like a beached whale, swimming, grilling, drinking, weeding/gardening, golf ball hunting, and photographing throughout all of it. i’ve enjoyed every bit of my summer. even the worst parts are difficult to really complain about.
i planted jalapeno peppers and cilantro in the backyard next to my mum’s tomatoes and rosemary.
my dad’s going on a harley ride with his biker gang thursday morning for three days. just so happens to be the first three days neil’s here. but when my dad gets back, he has a surprise planned for neil. perhaps i’ll share later since he might read this sometime before then.
my skin used to reflect light and now i can pass as a different race. it’s hard to believe i’ll be leaving the state of california for muggy rochester in a couple months. makes me sick to think about snow or wind or weather under 80 degrees. that’s something i always hated about spending last summer in rochester. it wasn’t hot enough and it was unpredictable. thunderstorms are nice, but so is the sunshine. i can’t handle rain and cloud coverage in the summer… not when we get that for 6 out of the 8 months in the school year.
living on a golf course has its perks. its open to the public after 6 o’clock and all day monday. my dad and i take walks around the 18 holes and let my dog run free. we hunt for lone golfballs in the ponds using a metal collapsable rod which reaches up to 18-feet. only my jewish father would purchase a device like this to simply steal other people’s golf balls.
i finally met shawn barber at fecalface(dot)gallery last week. made an ass of myself because i was so star-struck. i told him about how i wanted him to do my tattoo and that if i had a million dollars, i would ask for a sleeve and for one of his pieces to be hung in my house.
he has offered to do my tattoo this summer. something to check off my list-of-things-to-do-before-i-die.
its a bit unfortunate that i only have stupid camera phone images to show. i’ve taken rolls of film, but i don’t trust anyone here to develop it. plus, it’s hard to pass up the discount at ISL. looks like i’ll have more scanned images that will sit on my hard drive this coming year. it’s a never-ending process with me and my fucking film scans, hmm?
until my next update… enjoy the rest of your june.
