January Exhibition Opening: “Washington to Washington” & “In Habitation”

Dylan Knapp and I have curated two exhibitions that will be opening this Friday January 7th from 6-9 at Booksmart Studio. We will be exhibiting  the work entitled “Washington to Washington” by Joel Wellington Fisher in the Kunstler Gallery along with our Juried exhibition “In Habitation” in the Rochester Pin-Up Gallery. Many of you may know Joel from his short time spent teaching at RIT. I was fortunate enough to take a class with him before he left and I ended up learning way more than I expected. His work “Washington to Washington” is a series of landscapes that deconstruct the sites of the horrific DC sniper shootings that spanned from Tacoma, Washington to the areas in and around Washington DC. In a post 9/11 world his work is a look into fear and terror of our recent history that hits close to home and has become a common element in today’s society. The other Exhibition Opening is a juried show entitled “In Habitation” which you may remember from a call for entries I posted a few months back. The show consists of 6 photographic artists who are working in different ways to define the American Landscape and the people who inhabit it. If you are able to make it to the opening you won’t be disappointed, both exhibitions are going to be great.

Also along with Joel’s exhibition we have been working with him to create an affordable hard cover hand bound catalog edition book as well as an exhibition edition of 3, 8×10 prints on 11×14 paper the prints are available individually for edition numbers 1-10 and numbers 11-25 are available as a collector set of all three prints in a portfolio envelope. If anyone is interested in the book or the edition prints they are available HERE.

The Book has been a long time in the making with Alex Broderick, Dylan Knapp and I spending many hours designing, sequencing and planning with Eric Kunsman offering guidance and expertise to help the book come to a successful completion. Alex has spent the last few weeks printing, folding, stitching and putting the finishing touches on all 50 copies. All 50 copies have been made and will be signed By Joel to be released for purchase at the opening. Here are a few images to give you a better idea of what the book is like.
