Crunching

A couple of new portraits.
I’ve been generating some rough mental sketches for next quarters project, getting pretty excited but I’ve gotta really figure it out before I want to ask for thoughts. It feels like week nine right now. My brain isn’t working.

Yesterday Nikki was talking about her glasses being fucked up and not having a diopter in her prism. Maybe that could be why? I’m not sure. But of the two pictures I would say the left one is better, the lines match up better, cleaner background, and the light is better. The right composition feels a little forced, I know there is that sink right behind where you were taking the picture. I think I like the way her eyes look a l0t, but I wish she was making that face toward us and not out the window. That edge light on her shoulder is really nice too, I just think you should find a better spot in that house to retake it.

I definitely like the guy better. Much more feeling. Seems to be just sitting, looking at the world, thinking about his life. Since she has a window behind her, use it in her posing. Don’t just make it “background.” Learn to work with posing people, make them comfortable. It takes time & patience. Maybe you could somehow use the “focused on the hands” comments as a theme for a series? I saw an article about your math photos on Wired Magazines web site today, & followed a link to find some more of your work. After reading some of your blog entries, I must say, don’t fret what you are going through right now. You are having the same feelings about life changes we all must go through. Oh, btw, I liked the time lapse stuff with the cat!
